KJOLHAUG ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COMPANY
islikimillftwie
Memorandum
Providing Sound, Balanced, Comprehensive Natural Resource Solutions
Date: December 30, 2020
To: The City of Afton, MN
CC: Rick Packer, Gonyea Companies
From: Kyle Uhler, Kjolhaug Environmental Services Company (KES)
Re: Site Tree Survey Methods — Saint Joseph Pines, 680 Neal Ave South, Afton, MN
(KES#202 1)
The Saint Joseph Pines development will be surveyed for the presence and extent of significant
trees as defined by the City of Afton, MN Code of Ordinances Sec. 10-121. The site was located
in Section 6, Township 28N, Range 20W, City of Afton, Washington County, Minnesota.
Generally, the site was located south of Interstate 94 and east of Neal Avenue South. The site
boundaries corresponded to Washington County PID: 0602820410002.
The 40.76-acre site was comprised of approximately 22.49 acres of trees grouped into three large
continuous areas of woodland. The purpose of this memo is to explain the survey methods that
will be utilized to capture significant tree locations within the project boundaries.
Tree Survey Methods
Impacted Wooded Areas Survey (Figure 1)
• All significant trees located impacted by primary and secondary construction zones will
be sampled, approximately 5.34 ac.
• All significant trees sampled would capture species, DBH, location, and health condition.
Non -Impacted Wooded Areas Plot Survey (Figure 2)
• The wooded area was divided into two tree sampling areas, Tree Area 1, and Tree Area 2.
Aerial photography shows Tree Area 1 to be densely planted pine trees and Tree Area 2
to be more naturally dispersed tree canopies. Division of the wooded areas will improve
the accuracies of the survey estimates.
2500 Shadywood Road, Suite 130, Orono, MN Phone: 952-401-8757
