Absent: Councilmember Jeffrey. <br /> <br />(iasc/43: <br /> <br />Consider Authorization Plans & Specifications and Bidding for New Park <br />Shelter at Central Park <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated for the past several months, staff has been meeting <br />with representatives of the Ramsey Lions Club regarding their desire to replace the existing Park <br />Shelter at Central Park. The Ramsey Lions have donated $185,000.00 towards the cost of the <br />project, t lakanson Anderson & Associates has graciously donated the civil engineering work <br />~ssociatcd with the project. As approved at the regular meeting of June 28, 2005, staff and <br />representatives from Ramsey Lions have been working with architects from the firm of Adkins <br />Association Inc. on developing the plans, specifications and bid package for the project. Adkins <br />Association Inc. architect A1 Hurner, a Ramsey Lions member, donated the schematic design <br />work ~br thc project. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to the Ramsey Lions, Hakanson Anderson <br />and Al [ turner for their contributions to making this project a reality. This new shelter will be a <br />great asset to the community by providing additional covered picnic space for community groups <br />and families, additional concession space for athletic groups and the Lions, as well as hosting <br />events such as the Community Picnic, music in the park events, and numerous other events <br />lhroughout thc spring, summer and fall months. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson advised that the architectural drawings show permanent <br />restrooms connected to the facility; an alternate will be included in the bid package for <br />constructing thc exterior walls and rough-ins for the future restrooms. At such time that sewer <br />and water is available to the site, the interior finish of the restrooms could be completed. <br />I)epending on the outcome of the bid process, Council may wish to elect to build the exterior <br />walls and rough-ins or if cost saving measures are necessary, the exterior and interior restroom <br />construction could be completed in the future knowing that the facility has been designed with <br />lhat fi~ture space in mind. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson indicated the architect's estimate for the total project cost is <br />$254,842.00. Per Council direction, the additional funding required to complete the project will <br />be fimded via the City's Charitable Gambling Fund. The bid package will be ready for <br />publication by Friday, August 12th with an anticipated three week bid period. Construction <br />should commence in early to mid September; it is anticipated that the project will be completed <br />by early winter, with final grade and landscaping occurring in early spring of 2006.
