Chairperson Johns stated they discussed this at the joint meeting and the Council agreed with
them on looking at the building for renovations and the Mayor said he would go with her to talk
tt~ the Lions about this too.

Con]missioner Shryock stated it would be nice to see a plan on how they were going to put the
building in the space before they go ahead and do this. She did not think there would be room
t1~ere for having a "band shell" type of building and thought the central area where the current
building is would be a better place for it.

Chairperson Johns stated what the Lions are building is so needed but she wished they would
take more time and look at all the options.

Commissioner Lehman asked what types of improvements are coming up in ten years for this
park.

Chairperson Johns thought this was speeding up some of the process for the park and she was
a~'raid they really did not have a plan for this park.

Commissioner Lehman asked if Elmcrest was going to take over most of the soccer.

Park Utilities Supervisor Riverblood thought most of the soccer would be at Elmcrest and the fall
soccer will be moving to Elmcrest.

Commissioner Shryock wondered if Elmcrest would be adequate to have all the soccer there
because Central Park also has a lot of soccer and the small kids use Central Park for soccer.

Chairperson Johns asked when they are doing the construction on the blue prints she would like
to see the footprint for the bathroom expansion. She wished they had more time to plan this
because of potential changes that may happen in the coming years.

Commissioner Shryock wondered if there was a way they could get a copy of the plans to make
general comments on them.

Chairperson Johns stated she understood the Lions were excited to see their money used but she
thought the Mayor was going to go with her to discuss the options with the Lions so this took her
o f'f guard and she wondered if there could be still discussion regarding this.

Civil Engineer II Linton did not think there would be any chance for changing the plans.

Commissioner Olds wondered if there was a better use for that space.

Chairperson Johns thought a pavilion type of building would be good there. It would need to be
smaller because of the parking lot and ball field.

Park and Recreation Commission/July 14, 2005
Page 5 of 7
