There is concern that the pool of people for the department is <br />limited because of the nicotine policy. Those who voiced their opinion thought it did not <br />matter if firefighters smoked, as long as they did not do it here or on a fire call. <br /> <br />JUVENILE COMMUNITY SERVICE <br /> <br />Chief Kapler announced there may be some minors performing community service work for <br />the department. He suggested they would be washing and waxing tanker #1 and #2. <br /> <br />PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER <br /> <br />Chief Kapler reported that Laurie Swadner will be starting on Monday, March 16, 1998, as a <br />part-time Public Safety Officer. Most of her time will be allocated for the Police <br />Department; however she will assist the Fire Department during Fire Prevention Week and <br />with traffic control at accident scenes. <br /> <br />SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT REPORT <br /> <br />I1 was rcported that the committee met and discussed softball tournament entry fees, and the <br />budget for start-rip costs. They also assigned duties.
