Here are the Ramsey archery restrictions:
Ramsey 5.07.09 Use of bows and Arrows. '!The use of bows and arrow for hunting
purposes shall be permitted in the City in hunting wild game in accordance with thc laws
of'the State of MN. Bow and arrow hunting shall not be permitted within 300 yards of
any residential structure, commercial structure, park or playground and it shall not be
permitted within 150 yards of any trunk highway."

Here is the DNR firearms restrictions:
From page 5 of the MN DNR Hunting Rulcs. "On another persort's private land or a
public right-of-away, a person may not take a wild animal with a firearm within 500 ft of
a building occupied by humans or livestock without written permission."

l-tere is a copy of a letter I drafted and Outdoor News paper printed in its "letters to the
editor" this past winter:

DNR, it is your job to help
The metro deer herd is out of control and the DNR must be waiting for car kills, CWD or
sharp shooters to control metro deer.

I know this is not a scientific study but the 9 deer (6 adult does, two female fawns and
one male fawn) I saw in my back yard l~t month will become approximately 22 after this
year's fawns are bom. Nature will take care of this problem with disease if the trend
continues.

I fbel part of the solution would be to loosen up the archery restrictions in the metro. I
have contacted the DNR who said I should take this issue up ~4th my city council. The
DNR is much more powerful than any individual and I feel they should get involved and
at least make recommendations to the cities in the metro. If the DNR would just talk to
the city councils or simply write them a letter (stating what the DI'q-R recommends for
archery rules), it may be enough for the cities to react, more so than one or two load
mouth residents at a council meeting.

[ live on a 2 acre wooded tot in Ramsey. The city of Ramsey issues archery permits to
hunt deer within its city limits. The problem is the permit states you must be 900 ft from
any residence! 900 ft are you kidding me? The DNR regulation states you must be 500ft
away from someone else's residence unless you have permission for firearms.* Why in
the world would that distance be increased 400 ft for archery? ltow many people are
getting injured from flying arrows? I would like to see the only restriction on archery is
to have written landowners permission and perhaps require the hunter to be elevated so
the arrow is being directed into the ground.

I live in a 5 deer area and along with a few 0fray hunting buddies, would like to start.
filling our freezers with metro venison. At the same time, we would be alleviating car
crash's as well as helping prevent disease fi:om wiping out all the deer in the future.

-216B-
