The presenters will portray real - life situations to demonstrate the tools and <br />techniques necessary to assure that economic development projects meet the <br />community's goals at a reasonable cost. At the end of each real -life situation, the <br />presenter will summarize the issues that need professional evaluation. <br />Making it Green- Strategies for Capturing Benefits of Green Market Growth — <br />Candace Campbell, Principal, CDC Associates; and Minneapolis /St. Pau! <br />Representatives <br />CDC Associates did an analysis of opportunities to capture green manufacturing in the <br />two core cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Candace has also supervised a student <br />group that did more analysis of green jobs in Spring 2008. Part of the program will look at <br />best practices in other cities, what the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are doing and <br />with what result. <br />2:30 to 2:45 p.m. Break <br />2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Session Two <br />Track A: What Are You Thinking? <br />Regional Bioscience Network — Jeremy Lenz, VP Operations, BioBusiness Alliance of <br />Minnesota <br />The biosciences continue to be a hot topic for discussion in Minnesota and the nation. <br />The focus of the session will be to discuss the regional biosciences efforts underway in <br />Minnesota and highlight activities that regions are implementing to create, recruit and <br />retain in their regions. <br />Track B: How to Do It <br />When is Economic Impact Analysis "The Right Tool for the Job" — David Nelson, <br />Extension Educator, Community Economics, University of Minnesota Extension, <br />University of Minnesota, Crookston Regional Center <br />David Nelson is the Program Manager for Economic Impact Analysis at University of <br />Minnesota Extension. He has the training and the experience to highlight the efficacy of <br />this analytical tool for the benefit of ED professionals. <br />This topic is very timely in light of our national and state economic "times." We need to <br />know the impact (across all economic sectors) when a new development is considered or <br />when an existing company is contemplating an exit; jobs, taxbase, revenues, as well as <br />public ED policy are at stake. <br />Track C: Case Studies <br />Southwest LRT Transitway - Station Area Planning - A New Paradigm — Thomas <br />27 <br />
