Groundwater was encountered in 10 of the 12 soil borings at depths ranging from about 71/2
to 19 1/2 f eet below the ground surface, corresponding to elevations ranging from about 963 to
8811/2 feet above mean sea level. We generally do not anticipate that groundwater will be
encountering during grading activities but could be encountered during utility construction
and dewatering could be required.
With the building pad prepared as recommended, it is our opinion the footings can be
designed for a net allowable bearing pressure up to 3,000 pounds per square foot (psf).
The following sections provide recommendations for foundation design and construction.
4.3 Site Grading Recommendations
Excavation Structures exist on the project site that will be removed/demolished to make way
for the proposed development. We recommend that all building remnants including former
foundations, footings, floor slabs, foundation walls and underground utilities be removed
from within the building, roadway, utility and oversize area.
We recommend that all vegetation, topsoil and any soft or otherwise unsuitable soils, if
encountered, be removed from below the proposed building and oversize areas. Table 4
below summarizes the anticipated excavation depths at the soil boring locations. Excavation
depths may vary and could be deeper.
Table 4.Anticipated Excavation Depths
Measured Anticipated Anticipated Approximate
Boring Surface p p pp
Number Elevation Excavation Excavation Groundwater
Depth (feet)* Elevation(feet)* Elevation (feet)*
(feet)
SB-1 884.3 1 (Pond) 8831/2 8661/2
SB-2 903.2 1 (Pond) 902 NE
SB-3 889.1 1 888 8791/2
SB-4 892.4 1 (Pond) 8911/2 8811/2
SB-5 888.3 1 8871/2 876
SB-6 883.3 1 (Pond) 8821/2 876
SB-7 882.6 1 8811/2 863
SB-8 875.1 1 (Pond) 874 863
SB-9 888.5 1 (Pond) 8871/2 881
SB-10 890.0 1 -12 889-878 878
SB-11 902.5 1 901 1/2 NE
SB-12 885.7 1 (Pond) 8841/2 871.2
=Excavation and groundwater elevations were rounded to nearest 1/2 foot.
