Mr. Ketterman advised of a location by Soltice Park where residents wanted a fence erected to
assure the safety of their children. He stated they did not agree to that request.

Consensus was reached that the Commission does not support a fence in that comer location.

Case #6:

Proposed Crosswalk between 150th Lane and Sunwood Drive on County
Road 5

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that during August's Public Works Committee meeting,
the question came up as to whether there should be an additional crosswalk between the one
associated with the school at 150th Lane, and the other existing crosswalk at Sunwood Drive.
The location would be at 148th Lane, in line with the cul-de-sac connection on the east side of
County Road 5.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted these two crosswalks are approximately 1,900 feet apart,
with a trail on the west side of County Road 5 connecting the two. It is not known if the County
would permit three crosswalks in this same vicinity. Because City Council's Public Works
Committee requested that the issue be addressed, the Commission should make a formal
recommendation on this matter. He asked if the Commission supports a crosswalk between 150th
Lane and Sunwood Drive on County Road 5.

Commissioner Olds noted there is a trail on the west side of County Road 5 up to Fox Knoll.

Chairperson Cook stated he does not believe a crosswalk is needed at this point.

Commissioner Ostmm stated he does not support a crosswalk and suggested a barricade be
erected to alert pedestrians if the trail ends.

Discussion occurred regarding pedestrian traffic patterns.

Commissioner Olds stated people already think of it as a trail but he understands the concern. He
stated he does not support a designated crosswalk.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted it is recognized that the Master Trail Plan will resolve a lot
of these issues.

Motion by Commissioner Ostmm, seconded by Commissioner Olds, to recommend against the
placement of a crosswalk between 150th Lane and Sunwood Drive on County Road 5, noting the
Master Trail Plan will address these issues with an overall concept, and to recommend if the City
wants to improve a crossing of County Road 5 at the school, it be done with a controlled
crosswalk.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Cook, Commissioners Ostmm, Olds, Johns, LaMere,
and Rolfe. Voting No: None.

Park and Recreation Commission/September 20, 2001
Page 7 of 9
