It should be noted that a separate estimate of
$67,000 for the trail construction just east of Trunk Highway #47 (Segment C) was received
earlier this year.

By performing a significant amount of labor with City Staff vs. contracting, the City may be able
to pave the entire .6 mile of trail for less than the estimate for the eastern 1,029 feet.

Staff is therefore recommending using the existing trail fees as well as $5,490 (or less than 5%)
of Mallard Ponds park dedication contribution to complete this important project.

Since 1992, about 7% of park project costs has been scheduled for landscaping. Therefore, staff
is also proposing tree establishment with the trail project. This screening and beautification
would primarily be between County Road #116 and the new path in Rivers Bend Park. By
establishing a $2,660 tree budget (also funded by Mallard Ponds Park Dedication fees) the total
project cost equates to $50,000. Based upon discussions with Mr. Chris Bulow, developer for
Mallard Ponds, staff believes the trail project could be completed by the time Anoka Senior High
School opens for the school year. Tree installation would be fall of 2000 or spring of 2001.
