If an improvement project were to be ordered, any City costs would be proposed to be taken from the Stormwater Fund. Recommendation: Staff recommends leaving the existing swale as is and not constructing a sedimentation basin. Everything is working well as is and the private property owner has not contacted Staff since the last Public Works Committee meeting when this was discussed. If the private property owner requested this work to be completed, Staff would recommend that the property owner be required to pay for the requested work since it solely benefits the use of their property. However, the City could consider contributing an amount commensurate with the estimated long-term savings associated with maintaining a settling basin next to a public street versus maintaining a linear drainage swale along the rear of a private property within a drainage easement. Based on a 50-year maintenance schedule, this cost is estimated at $2,000 as the City would dredge and restore the turf in the swale every 25 years on average. Action: Based on discussion.
