STRESS MANAGEMENT TRAINING BUILDS RESILIENCY — Add 1
The leaders had input on how to adapt the training approach to the Oromo community. The
ACCFC viewed the event as a pilot project to gauge interest. Katabay told the Anoka County
Children and Family Council at its September meeting there is interest among Oromo community
leaders to expand the offerings.
Council Co-chair Laura Seifert-Hertling, director of Special Services for Fridley Public
Schools, thanked Katabay for his partnership.
"Let's build on this," Seifert-Hertling said. "Let's keep moving it forward."
Katabay got involved with the ACCFC through publicly held conversations on building
community resiliency. From that, he joined the Community Resiliency Committee of the Council.
The committee drafted a resiliency plan which included an action step of bringing mental wellness
education to a culture that had not experienced it before.
The partnership with Change to Chill stems from the program's work with several high
schools in the county, providing training for staff and students and funding to create calm spaces
in schools. Students, staff and the public are encouraged to find more stress management and
mental health resources at C......1.wletoChi l l.or,4. The committee is now looking to expand the training
opportunities.
To learn more about the Community Resiliency Committee of the Anoka County Children
and Family Council, contact Jared Scheel, collaborative coordinator, at
iired..sc eel(d...:o,,anoka..nin..or call 763-324-1289.
About the Anoka County Children and Family Council
The Anoka County Children and Family Council is made up of Anoka County, Anoka
County Community Action Program, the school districts of St. Francis, Anoka -Hennepin, Forest
Lake, Centennial, Spring Lake Park, Fridley and Columbia Heights, parents, and community
agency representatives from Emma B.
