and westbound traffic. However, a.,westbound vehicle slowing reasonably to yield at Marmoset Street has adequate sight distance to yield to southbound traffic. City Engineer Jankowski reviewed information provided in the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MNMUTCD). He advised staff recommends that the existing signage at this intersection is approphate and recommends no change in the si~age at the intersection of Marrnoset and 154th Lane. Colleen Fischer, resident, stated the corner of 154th Lane and Marmoset Street is an elementary school bus stop. There are several teenage drivers in the neighborhood that drive fast, including one that drives a motorcycle. Her daughter stands as much on the grass as she can to avoid the traffic on the street and one of her neighbors has an autistic son who they do not allow out on the street. There is not a lot of traffic, but it is fast traffic, and if the traffic is forced to stop one way it could prevent an accident. City Engineer Jankowski stated in circumstances like this residents are encouraged to work with the Police Department. He noted people are usually creatures of habit and the individuals that are driving fast will likely come through the neighborhood at the same time. Mayor Gamec suggested the speed trailer be located at this location, that the police patrol the neighborhood, and that the Police Department be notified with the license number of the motorcyclist. He noted speeding is a problem throughout the City. Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Olson to recommend to the City Council that the existing signage at this intersection is appropriate and to recommend no change in the signage at the intersection of Marmoset and 154th Lane. Assistant Public Works Director Olson thanked Ms. Fischer for expressing her concern and being proactive. He explained there could be liability issues associated with installing a stop sign at this intersection. Case #3: Update on the 47 Pedestrian Crossing at 142''a Avenue' City Engineer Jm~kowski reviewed that the Public Works Committee reviewed the elements of the TH 47 safety improvement project at the January 2005 meeting. At that meeting the committee recommended that the marked pedestrian crossing at 142nd Avenue be eliminated to discourage crossing at what is felt to be a hazardous location. The City Council ratified this recommendation at the February 8, 2005 meeting. The plans for this summer's project, however, perpetuated the pedestrian crossing. Staff has contacted M~ff)OT to request that this crossing be removed. Chris Roy of MnDOT has indicated MnDOT agrees this is not a good location for the crossing.
