The development proposal also preserves two sites for future Public/Quasi-Public uses. The first
is the fire station site in the northeast corner of the site, This portion of the plat is identified as
Public/Quasi-Public in.the Comprehensive Plan and is currently zoned Public/Quasi-Public. No
change in land use designation or zoning is required for the future fire station site.
The second Public/Quasi-Public site is intended to be held by the City for a future school site.
While the School District cannot commit that this property will be used for a school, the City
Council and the School Board have met on this issue. In previous work sessions, the City
Council has expressed a strong desire to preserve the land around the current -City Hall campus
for a future school use. The site consists of a portion of the City Hall Campus and the backyards
of 3 existing residences south of City Hall. It will be necessary to rezone the portions of the 3
existing residences being incorporated into the future school site from R-1 Residential to
Public/Quasi-Public. The 3 homesteads will retain their R-1 Residential zoning.
Facilitating this development proposal will enhance a potential future school site with public
sewer and water, roads and sidewalks.
Recommendation:
City Staff recommends introduction of the proposed ordinance to rezone portions of The
Meadow. The final adoption of the ordinance will not be brought to City Council until after
Metropolitan Council approval of the related Comprehensive Plan Amendment.
Commission Action:
Motion by Councilmember _ and seconded by Councilmember to adopt
Resolution #05-11- adopting Findings of Fact #0 relating to a request from GM Land
Development to rezone certain property from B-1 Business and Public/Quasi-Public to Planned
Unit Development; and R-1 Residential to Public -Quasi -Public.
-and-
Motion by Councilmember and seconded by Councilmember to introduce
Ordinance #05-____ to rezone certain property from B-1 Business and Public/Quasi-Public to
Planned Unit. Development; and R-1 Residential to Public -Quasi -Public.
Reviewed by:
Community Development Director
CC: 11/22/05
Copies to:
City Administrator
•
•
•
-278-
