Mayor Gamec stated that he thought funds for the expansion of Central Park were going to be set
aside as part of this year's budget.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated he talked to the property owner who is watching the
Comprehensive Plan closely. He would prefer to see the land as park land and the Park
Commission would be very supportive of setting funds aside.

Mayor Gamec inquired if there would be a separate well for the irrigation or will municipal water
be used.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos replied that it would be more economical to use municipal water.

Councilmember Connolly inquired if the horseshoe pits get used.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that the volleyball and horseshoe pits are not a large cost
and were the result of a survey completed by the residents.

Councihnember Hendriksen inquired if the proposed park by Orrin Thompson homes borders
Solstice Park.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos replied yes.

Councihnember Hendriksen stated that he believes it would not be prudent to do irrigation on the
park when there is a proposal to expand the park.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos replied that most of the park improvements are a step by step
process and he would not have a concern with tabling the action on Solstice Park until they know
the direction of the Katnis property.

Councilmember Hendriksen questioned if there are any plans to improve the entrance to Central
Park.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos replied not currently.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that since Central Park is one of the City's premier parks,
there should be some money spent to make the entrance reflect that.

Mayor Gamec suggested cleaning up the area on an interim basis and to come up with a design
for the area.

Councilmember Zimmerman suggested that staff bring a proposal back to the Committee.

Finance Committee/July 25, 2000
