However, a:;westbound vehicle slowing reasonably to yield at <br /> Man'noset Street has adequate si_~-A~t distance to yield to southbound traffic. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski reviewed information provided in the Minnesota Manual on Uniform <br />Traffic Control Devices (MNMLTFCD). He advised staff recommends that the existing sig:nage <br />at this intersection is appropriate and recommends no change in the signage at the intersection of <br />Marmoset and 154th Lane. <br /> <br />Colleen Fischer, resident, stated the comer of 154th Lane and Marmoset Street is an elementary <br />school bus stop. There are several teenage dr/vers in the neig/2borhood ~hat drive fast, including <br />one that drives a motorcycle. Her daughter stands as much on the pass as she can to avoid the <br />traffic on the street and one of her neighbors has an autistic son who they do no~: allow out on the <br />street. There is not a lot of traffic, but it is fast traffic, and if the traffic is forced to stop one way <br />it could prevent an accident. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowsld stated in circumstances like ti'tis residents are .encouraged to work with <br />the Police Department. He noted people are usually creatures of habit and the individuals that <br />are driving fast will likely come throuo~ the nei~?&borhood at the same time. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec suggested th'e speed trailer be located at th/s location, 'that the police patrol the <br />neighborhood, and that the Police Department be notified with the license number of the <br />motorcyclist. He noted speeding is a problem throughout the City. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by' Councilrnember Otson to recommend to the. City Council <br />that the existing sig-nage at this intersection is appropriate and to recommend no change in the <br />sig-nage at the intersection, of Marmoset and 154th Lane. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Acting Chairperson Cook, Mayor Gamec and Councilmember <br />Olson. Voting No: None. Absent: Chairperson Elvig. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson thanked Ms. Fischer for expressing her concern and <br />being proactive. He explained there could'be liability issues associated with install, ing a stop <br />sign at this intersection. <br /> <br />'Case #3: Update on the 47 Pedestrian Crossing at 142''~ Avenue' <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowsld reviewed that the Public Works Committee reviewed the elements of <br />the TH 47 safety improvement project at the January 2005 meeting. At that meeting the <br />committee recommended that the marked pedestr/an crossing at 147d Avenue be eliminated to <br />discourage crossing at what is felt to be a hazardous location. The City Council ratified tlzis <br />recommendation at the February 8, 2005 meeting. The plans for this summer's project, however, <br />perpetuated the pedestrian crossing. Staff has contacted Mn.DOT to request that tJ:fi.s crossing be <br />removed.
