case is to determine if there is park or open space value to this portion of high ground adjacent to
the wetland to be created. He noted that Solstice Park is in close proximity and in addition to
probable easterly expansion, the park will most likely receive a connection to Sunwood Drive via
a trail corridor east of the existing homes on the south side of Sunwood Drive. There does not
appear to be any trail or park development opportunities associated with this "vacant" property
on the north side of Sunwood Drive, but noted that there may be some value in leaving this land
as permanent open space - if for no other reason than to maintain a buffer between the wetland
and the residential land use.

Discussion ensued.

Motion by Commissioner Ostrum, seconded by Commissioner Johns, to recommend that there is
no park and recreation value on the vacant property north of the extension of Sunwood Drive and
that the Park Commission has no recommendation as to the sale of the land.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Ostmm, Johns, Asfahl, and Rolfe.
Voting No: None.

Case #6: Determine Outdoor Meeting Schedule

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that for the last several years, the Park Commission has
held its regular meetings outdoors in the months of May through September or October. This
provided the Commission an opportunity to inspect and comment on parks as a group and it
afforded residents access to the Commission on a neighborhood level.

Consensus of the Park Commission was to hold their regular Commission meetings at the
following parks from May through October:

May - Lake Itasca Trail
June - Central Park
July - Rabbit Park
August - Rivers Bend
September - Solstice Park
October - Emerald Pond (tentative)

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

1) Elmcrest Land Rent

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted that an add was placed for land rent and that the City has
received three inquires.

2) Environmental Expo Planning

Consensus of the Park Commission was to have a booth at the April 29th Expo.

Park and Recreation Commission/March 9, 2000
Page 7 of 8
