Voting No: None. <br /> <br />7) Fire Officer Selections for Year 2006 <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook explained the Fire Officers are selected on a rotating basis each year. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler explained this case specifically addresses the appoimment of the <br />paid on call officer positions. Each position carries a two year term. These terms alternate, <br />making half the positions available for application each year. All firefighters interested must <br />submit a letter of interest, including those who currently hold the position and are applying <br />again. Mr. Kapler indicated he conducted interviews during the week of December 26, 2005. <br />His recommendations have been discussed with the City Administrator, who has approved. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook stated the City has an exceptional Fire Department, which is in large part <br />due to Fire Chief Kapler and his personnel that are lead members of the Fire Departmem. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Personnel Committee in Case No. 7 and to accept the Fire Chief's <br />recommendation of Fire Department Officers for 2006/2007. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Jeffrey, Elvig, Olson, <br />Pearson, and Strommen. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig expressed his appreciation to the Council for their support of the Planning <br />Commission members. <br /> <br />MAYOR, COUNCIL AND STAFF INPUT <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired about the status of skating rinks in the City. Public Works Director <br />Kapler replied the rinks have not been able to be flooded due to all the days with temperatures <br />over freezing. Staff is trying to take advantage of the cool days to get some ice down. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated he received a call of appreciation regarding the snow removal on the school <br />trails. Public Works Director Kapler explained the two mile walking radius for both Ramsey <br />Elementary and Pact Charter School are done under the same priority as the streets; beyond that <br />the trails are secondary. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson stated he attended a Fire Department medical training session and <br />would like to commend the Fire Department for the time and effort they put into their training. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec announced the following events: · City Holiday Party on Friday, January 13th <br /> · Town Center meeting on January 18th at 4:00 p.m. <br /> · Business Networking Meeting on January 26th at 7:30 a.m. at Connexus <br /> · One-year anniversary open house for the Pact Charter School January 25th from 2-4 p.m. <br /> <br />City Council / January 10, 2006 <br />Page 17 of 18 <br /> <br /> <br />
