City Engineer Jankowski stated he was asked to discuss with the contractor a reduction in the
cost of the project for providing the closure. He stated he made contact with the contractor who
indicated the contractor would have to work overtime to complete the work within a two week
closure period. He stated some additional detour signs would be needed with the costs picked up
by the contractor. City Engineer Jankowski stated the closure will accelerate the project to the
point it will not finish earlier than anticipated but should finish on schedule

Councilmember Connolly asked if it is possible to have the contractor work at night.

City Engineer Jankowski stated if the project is delayed by the utility moving, the contractor will
probably have a claim for damages due to the delay. He suggested it is in everyone's best interest
to keep the project on schedule (completion date of November 15, 2000 and July 1, 2001 for
placement of the final bituminous lift). If not completed, liquidated damages would be assessed
based on a schedule of the project cost.

Chairperson Zimmerman stated he is willing to work with a two-week closure but he is cautious
about anything else.

Councilmember Hendriksen asked if the contractor wants to resolve the issue of money changing
hands (or deduct) before he begins construction work. He indicated support to authorize closing
the road and then dealing with the cost issues later depending on how the project goes.

The Public Works Commission concurred.

With regard to Mallard Pond, City Engineer Jankowski stated he was told it would be no earlier
than August 14th for the closing Trunk Highway #47 north of County Road #5.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated staff asked the Police Department for
heightened control on Waco Street which may absorb more traffic during the closing of Trunk
Highway #47.

Case #5: Consider Renaming East/West (153rd Avenue) Collector

Councilmember Hendriksen stated when completed, he supports a consistent road name across
the City.

Councilmember Connolly concurred.

Chairperson Zimmerman stated he does not know what format the City wants to look at for
determining a new name. He reviewed how the name of Sunwood Drive was selected.

City Engineer Jankowski stated when Sunwood Drive was named, an article was placed in the
Ramsey Resident to solicit names.

Public Works Committee/July 18, 2000
