He stated he also received calls regarding sink holes in two <br />other areas, and will provide this information to staff. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook commended the Engineering Department for their work with this program. <br />He stated as a private citizen, he moved in 1990 and his road has been sealcoated twice, and it <br />has been a good job. That is likely why his road is in the condition it is in. He would much <br />rather see the maintenance get done than wait until the road needs work and needs to be replaced. <br />He has always supported the move towards this maintenance program and is glad to see it <br />boosted up to $400,000 this year to take care of some of the roads that have been on the back <br />bumer. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked if core samples are taken from roads that are busting up. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson replied when the patching is done they are able to see the <br />condition and thickness of the original bituminous. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski advised the only action required tonight is to close the public heating. <br />This project will be on the agenda of the March 28, 2006 City Council meeting for authorization <br />to order plans and specifications for the project. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec suggested the residents on Kangaroo Street meet with the City Engineer. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to close the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Elvig, Cook, Olson, Pearson, and <br />Strommen. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Jeffrey. <br /> <br />The public hearing was closed at 8:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec called the regular City Council meeting back to order at 8:00 p.m. <br />PRESENTATION <br /> <br />Three Anoka High School students provided a presentation on the Teen Driving Law that <br />prohibits Minnesotans with a permit or provisional drivers license from driving while on a hand- <br />held or hands-free cell phone. The presentation included the following suggestions: · The students distributing flyers at local businesses <br /> · Stickers to be placed in the rear window of drivers with provisional licenses or permits to <br /> make these drivers more easily recognized <br /> · A sign to be posted at local high schools <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated he is a firm believer that no one should use a cell phone while driving. He <br />believes this Council would support efforts with this issue.
