She stated that the School District has identified four sites, one being in
Ramsey. According to the School District list, the Ramsey site fits their needs more than the
other site. In the event the Ramsey site is not selected, Ms. Merritt urged the Council to make
sure they do not make the same mistake made in Andover where they gave up a prime spot for
high school development for a residential development. She stated she viewed a past Ramsey
Council meeting where a discussion was held about bringing in more residential development
and not the high school. She noted that bringing in more residential would result in the need for
a high school. Ms. Merritt reported on the comments of her high school aged babysitter who
stated she loved the Anoka High School but felt it would be nice to have a Ramsey High School
so she had a better opportunity to participate in sports and other activities.
