Mayor Gamec stated if it is a new business, then a conditional use permit is needed. He noted a <br />condition of the permit would be cleaning up the area. He added it is screened, but that is just <br />one advantage. <br /> <br />Mr. Menard stated he has a list of all the neighbors not opposed to Mr. Barrett and the proposed <br />addition. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated she would agree to leaving the business alone, but not to the <br />expansion. She noted it does not seem to fit with the development of the City. She added the <br />Council is trying to get the City more orderly. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich asked if the applicant would consider amending the application to <br />remove the expansion. <br /> <br />Mr. Barrett stated he would like to expand to have a showroom. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich stated the Council could approve a conditional use permit, if the building <br />is not expanded. <br /> <br />Mr. Barrett responded he has to look at the future and must be able to expand. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated many business start out small this way and move to other <br />facilities as they grow. He noted this shop is intended for only ten people. He added for this <br />operation Mr. Barrett needs to make the next step to a commercial property. <br /> <br />Mr. Menard stated Mr. Barrett needs the storage space for cabinets. <br /> <br />Mr. Barrett stated he has 3,000 square feet now and it is full. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated this building is actually larger than some cabinet shops already located in <br />Ramsey. <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly stated there is no intention to have a residence. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen asked if Mr. Barrett had looked at the memo from the building <br />official as to what is needed to operate. <br /> <br />Mr. Barrett responded he had not. <br /> <br />Councilmember Connolly stated she has no problem with the new business or the existing <br />business.
