Councilmember Anderson inquired if the City designates another road as an MSA road would <br />the City still receive the $3,800 in needs. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken replied that the City could receive more depending on the condition of the road that <br />would be designated. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson inquired if the $3,800 and the $26,000 are two separate figures. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken explained that since Dysprosium Street is an adequate road the City receives $3,800 <br />for being on the MSA system, the pay back if Dysprosium Street is removed from the MSA <br />system before the 25 year life span would be deducted from the next state aid project the City <br />applies for funding on. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired as to what other traffic calming alternatives would be acceptable to <br />MnDOT on an MSA road. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken suggested curve bump outs, landscaping, median in the center of the road, remove the <br />parking, or adding some curvature to the road. She suggested that the City view other projects in <br />other cities. <br /> <br />Councihnember Anderson replied that many of the alternatives would require higher <br />maintenm~ce. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken replied that adding curvature or bump outs to the road would not increase <br />maintenance. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied that it would be difficult to add curvature when it is all residential along <br />Dysprosium Street. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if MnDOT has already made the determination that <br />Dysprosium Street will be removed from the MSA system. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken replied no, but explained that MnDOT would like to see the speed bumps removed as <br />soon as possible. She also noted that the City will not be receiving any of the needs for <br />Dysprosium Street when the next round Of funds are dispersed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen clarified if the City has already lost the $3,800. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken replied not yet, but MnDOT is in the process of dividing up the funds for 2001 and if <br />the City does not take action soon the City will lose the $3,800. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if there is a road width requirement for MSA streets. <br /> <br />Ms. Loken replied 38 feet. <br /> <br />City Council/September 26, 2000 <br /> Page 5 of 36 <br /> <br /> <br />
