with the Police Dept and time spent collecting evidence, we were able to identify
5 of the suspects for the 7 arson cases that we have.

· Fire Education:
This year we saw over 2800 people, shot 6 cable programs, and visited 3
businesses related to fire safety education. The majority of the people seen are
during fire prevention week when we visit schools and daycares and during
safety camp. We also see a lot of people during our open house.

Duty Officer Response

Since 2003 the fire department has been utilizing a "Duty Officer" response to
calls where a full department response is not needed. This has worked out very
well. In 2005 a total of 94 responses were handled by a single fire officer.

Fire Secretary Position

In June of 2005 Franny McNallan was hired as a part-time Fire Secretary. In
December her position was changed to full-time status.

Challenges for 2006 and beyond

· Station #3
The 2008 CIP includes funding for land to build fire station #3. Fire staff has
begun the process on picking the most beneficial site for purchase. This land
could be held for some time prior to the actual building of the 3ru fire station. (see
Burns update)

· Station #2
With the construction of a new municipal center, the future for the current fire
station #2 becomes a topic for concern. The station.has space and usage issues
that should be discussed to prioritize the re-building. A development on the
current city hall campus has set aside almost 2 % acres for the building.

· Burns Fire Service
Ramsey and Burns Township has been discussing the possibility combined fire
service in late 2005. Although these discussions have been conceptual to date,
early 2006 should see if the effort can become reality. If a combined effort were
to go forward, the building of station #3 may be pushed out to a later date.

That's ItH

-12-
