Mr. Guzzo stated he does not know about garbage. He indicated that this is where he lives. He <br />stated that there are some signs that may be on the side of the building waiting to go up, but there <br />is no garbage laying around. <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt verified with Staff that a Home Occupation Permit is meant to be a business <br />done inside, not outside, which Staff verified is correct. He asked how much scrap the business <br />generates. <br /> <br />Mr. Guzzo stated there is some aluminum; maybe a pick-up truck every five months which they <br />recycle. <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt asked if they handle any neon for signs. <br /> <br />Mr. Guzzo indicated that any neon they get in they take to Green Lights for recycling. <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt asked if when they install neon, if the apparatus is enclosed. <br /> <br />Mr. Guzzo stated that the neon is in the sign; they do not blow neon at their location. <br /> <br />Another owner of the business noted that the only neon they come in contact with is red, with no <br />mercury. He stated they choose to use an LED with a very low wattage. He noted they have a <br />receptacle on site in case of breakage. <br /> <br />Motion by Chairperson Nixt, seconded by Commissioner Levine, to close the public hearing at <br />8:15 p.m. <br /> <br />Motion Carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Nixt, Commissioners Levine, Brauer, Shepherd, Van <br />Scoy, and Watson. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner Johnson. <br /> <br />Commission Input <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt stated he just cannot find a way to renew this permit. He indicated that he feels <br />this is not a home business, and he cannot give them eighteen months to move. He stated he <br />would be inclined to grant 60 days to give the business time to get off-site so they do not walk <br />out of here tonight and be in violation. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Watson stated that he agreed with that suggestion. He indicated it sounds like this <br /> is a flourishing business, and the City has places for businesses such as this. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Brauer stated he hates to put a business out, but there are ways that the applicant <br /> could have done a better job getting into compliance. <br /> <br /> Chairperson Nixt indicated that even if they had gotten into compliance, this is not a business <br /> that is compatible with a residential area.
