Mayor Gamec said he received a lot of good comments on the roving
playground and the program has been fantastic.
Mark said he wanted to spread out geographically. The total cost
is $6820 for the summer program. He said the City pays ?0% of his
salary plus the cost of the program and the school pays 30% of his
salary plus supplies. He said they emphasize participation in their
programs and the R.A.A. emphasizes competition, game schedules, etc.
Mayor Gamec brought up the boiler situation in regards to maintenance
of City Hall.
City Administrator Schnelle said a man from Honeywell came out and
told him what the problems were with the boiler. He said the City
doesn't have anyone who does this type of work. If the boiler went
out in the winter time, the system could free~ up. The Honeywell
people are on call constantly. It is expensive, but the City has
expensive equipment also.
Councilmsm Reimann asked if the City ever had been approached by the
people the City buys their oil from regarding a maintenance program.
Local Oil sends out someone in the field to check the service for the
coming year.
Building Official Berg said it isn't so much the furnace as it is all
the other mechanical controls.
Mayor Gamec said he could go along with it all, except the irrigation
system for outside City Hall.
Councilman Cox said he thought the City Hall lower level should be
dropped because of the economy.
Mayor Gamec said the City has been looking at using the lower level
for groups.
Councilman'Cox asked what the estimate was on what the bathroom would
cost. He said he would like to see it finished off, but would like
to wait and see if HUD would go for it.
Councilman Reimann said he was not too pleased about the irrigation
system either.
The consensus of the council was to cut off the irrigation system
- for outside City Hall.
Councilman Cox noted the $17,000 raise regarding the Police item.
Jean said the overtime has increased considerably smd is the reason
for the raise.
Mayor asked Police Chief Mike how many CPR and First Aid classes
he was doing.
He said they haven't had any within the department itself, but through
the Community School Program. ~here are many people being turned away,
because the classes sre limited. He said these are good and worthwhile
courses. If they are done on off-duty time, the policeman gets straight
time pay. A new man in the department would be able to pick up vacations
& holidays taken. SPECIAL COUNCIL
November 6, 1980
Page 6
