Mayor G~mec said he received comp'laints that the City is not responding. <br />Polic~ Chief Mike said there is a lack of communications between what <br />the County is doing and what the 'City is doing. <br />The hours between 4 a.m. and ? a.m. or 4 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. are the <br />times not covered and they are not getting reports from the county <br />regarding these hours. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox asked if it would be reasonable to hire a part-time <br /> <br />Police Chief Mike said part-time men are hard to get. They have to <br />be trained to the same degree and licensed. Most departments wo~t <br />allow it. None of the local police departments would allow their <br />people to work part time for another agency. <br /> <br />Engineering <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said he was told it would cost about $30,O00/year for <br />an Engineer. He suggested addinE an Administrative Assistant or <br />a Planner. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle said it was his feeling that the City <br />would be jumping out too far to hLre an Engineer without ~the utilities <br />in the city. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox said he didn't think the City needed an Engineer. <br />He said he was happy with the way things in that area were being <br />handled at the present time. He suggested looking at ways to <br />streamline the items and also looking at hiring an Assistant to <br />City Administrator Schnelle. <br /> <br /> City Administrator Schnelle said it would cost approximately $17,000 <br /> to $18,000 for someone experienced. He said he didn't want a person <br /> just out of school and the total cost for an experienced person would <br /> be about $35,000. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said to put $35,000 down for this item. <br /> <br />Street Maintenance <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle said there is always a lot of things the <br />City wants the Street Department to do and the drainage is getting to be <br />a problem. The City should have Superintendent Mevissen on things <br />like watching the contractors and the city's interests out there. He <br />can recognize problems that the inspector won't recognize. More of <br />Merle's time will be spent on administration. Merle is being spread <br />pretty thin. <br /> <br />Superintendent Mevissen said the City is going to have to add personnel <br />as it adds roads and there is a maintenance problem on the signs that <br />were put out also. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle asked the council to look at how much <br />service they want to provide. <br /> <br /> SPECIAL COUNCIL <br /> November ~, 1980 <br /> Page 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
