Mayor Gamec commented that the City Council may be interested in knowing the amount of <br />training the reserves have to do - and what duties they perform for and with the Department. <br /> <br />Chairperson Anderson commented on how good it is to have reserves and how much money they <br />actually save the City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson inquired about insurance for the reserves. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Kapler responded that the insurance for the reserves is handled in pretty much the <br />same way as it is for volunteer Fire Fighters. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued relating to reserves, their training, patrol ride-a-longs, fingerprinting <br />programs, and car seat programs. <br /> <br />2) Chair/Vice Chair Elections <br /> <br />Chairperson Anderson suggested the Board elect a Chair and Vice-Chair for the 2006 year. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Police Rep Boardmember Paplham to nominate/elect <br />Tom Anderson as Chairperson. <br /> <br />Motion carried - all in favor. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Pearson and seconded by Police Rep Boardmember Paplham to <br />nominate/elect David Lewandowski as Vice-Chairperson. <br /> <br />Motion carried - all in favor. <br /> <br />3) Fire Department Update <br /> <br /> 1) A part-time secretary for the Fire Department was hired in 2005. <br /> 2) The City Council approved promoting the secretary to full time for 2006. <br /> 3) The Fire Department is currently full-staffed at 40 people. <br /> <br />Chairperson Anderson inquired about the number of daytime firefighters. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler stated there are probably 10 to 14 people who can respond to a daytime fire. <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />5) <br />6) <br /> <br />7) <br /> <br />Chief Kapler explained that the auto aid package has been altered and explained how <br />it now works. <br />The Department finished a full year of duty officer program. <br />With smoke detector calls (malfunction) - the entire department is no longer <br />dispatched out - one officer goes and that's working well. <br />2005 was the first full year of covering one/half of Burns Township. <br /> <br />Public Safety Board -January 12, 2006 <br /> Page 3 of 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
