Future Year Concept Traffic Analysis
Future Year Safety Analysis
To quantify the reduction in crashes for each concept, the CMF Clearinghouse website was used. The
Clearinghouse website provides crash modification factors (CMFs) for various countermeasures
implemented on a segment or at an intersection. Using the Clearinghouse, CMFs were selected based
on the relevance of the countermeasure to the concept analyzed. The CMFs used for the various
improvement concepts are shown in Table 10 through Table 13.
Table 10: Roundabout Crash Modification Factors
CMF
0.57 - 0.62
0.17 - 0.21
Crash Type
Table 11: Bypass to Turn Lane Crash Modification Factors
Crash Severity
All
K,A, B, C
Area Type
CMF Crash Type Crash Severity Area Type
0.88*
All All
*Value was calculated by combining two CMFs since there was no CMF for bypass to dedicated turn lane
Table 12: Turn Lane on Minor Approach Crash Modification Factors
CMF Crash Type Crash Severity Area Type
0.75
Table 13: Increased Horizontal Curve Radius Crash Modification Factors
CMF Crash Type Crash Severity Area Type
0.77 Rural
The CMFs for increased horizontal curve radius show in Table 13 were calculated using the following
equation:
24
