He
stated that when the schools are involved, everything revolves around the school children and
parents don't participate.

Board Member Bentz suggested putting out a call for pictures or stories about the storm last year
and the effects of trees.

Board Member Max concurred with Board Member Bentz' suggestion.

Chairperson McDilda stated he felt that fit in well with the breakout concept. He stated that the
EXPO date is April 29th.

Board Member Max stated that the Festival of Trees will be held the end of May. He stated that
will not be a conflict with the EXPO.

Board Member Bentz asked if there was anything that the City is involved in where they have to
prove the amount of money they spend on educational programs or use this for a matching fund
grant.

Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that if there was a venue to find a source for a proposal, it
could potentially get worked in.

Councilmember Strommen stated this may fall under the requirements for the NPDES Permits
where the City is required to do some education. She stated that Brian Olson has stated that
some of the storm water funds for the wetland book could be used.

Environmental Specialist Bacon stated that Steve Jankowski said the LRRWMO was mandated
to do education but the 'ye never done ' ,
Y anything because they don t have the staff. He stated that
Mr. Jankowski may be interested in partnering with the EPB for some kind of water education.
He stated that if there is an event that impacts the water, the first question that comes up is what
it was before the event.

Chairperson McDilda stated the recommendation is to form a smaller task force to report back to
the EPB at the February meeting. He recommended taking some of the ideas that were
suggested and present it to the City Council. He suggested that at least one member involved in
the EXPO in the past should be on the task force.

Environmental Policy Board / January 9, 2006
Page 15 of 16
