Chairperson McDilda asked if the group could meet before the next EPB meeting and come back
with a recommendation.

Board Members Bentz, Hustvedt, Sibilski, Max volunteered to serve on the task force.

Board Member Bentz asked if the Tree Book was available as an electronic document.

Coordinator Anderson stated that it currently was not available electronically.

Board Member Sibilski will call the meeting time and place.

Case #2 Formulate 2006 Work Plan

Chairperson McDilda asked Coordinator Anderson to comment on the work plan.

Coordinator Anderson stated that some things completed in 2005 were the Wetland Buffer
ordinance, the EXPO, a joint meeting with the Park and Recreation Commission to discuss the
greenways portion of the Comprehensive Plan update, and reviewing the Tree Preservation
ordinance. He noted a carryover for 2006 would be a Wetland Buffer Guidebook. He stated that
now that an ordinance is in place, it could go hand-in-hand with the Tree Book for a reference
for residents.

Coordinator Anderson stated that working on the environmental page for the web site and
quarterly updates with Council members didn't get worked on in 2005, and should be carried
over to 2006. He concurred that the Tree Book should be available on the web site. He stated
that Board Member Max had expressed an interest in tracking some waste streams. He stated
that the two initial directives of City Council have been completed and now it's on the EPB's
shoulders to look at the kinds of things they would like to be involved in as a work plan.

Board Member Max stated that one of his clients is in the Forestry Department for the City of
Mankato. He stated they do a photography contest and turn it into a calendar. He stated he felt it
could be a fun thing to do. He suggested that a small group or committee be selected to start this.

Chairperson McDilda stated it could be interesting to make it a focal point for the Environmental
EXPO.

Board Member Max stated that the calendar could be done electronically, and also have the
photo show up on the City web site.

Chairperson McDilda stated it would be an interesting way to bring out some awareness and
provide a public benefit.

Board Member Bentz stated he felt it would be interesting to post an announcement at the local
schools for kids to participate.

Environmental Specialist Bacon stated the school sponsored a T-shirt contest for the EXPO last
year. He stated that they were looking at doing a calendar, thinking that business sponsorship for
advertising could be used to help fund it.

Environmental Policy Board / January 9, 2006
Page 9 of 16
