As this is the first meeting of 2006, the EPB should review the 2005 work plan and discuss
topics for the 2006 work plan. A copy of the 2005 work plan has been included as Exhibit 2.
Observations:
The EPB successfully completed a wetland buffer ordinance, participated in the Environmental
Expo, and participated jointly with the Park & Recreation Board to offer comments on the
greenways portion of the Comprehensive Plan update. Furthermore, the EPB is in the process of
reviewing the Tree Preservation Ordinance.
While the EPB has successfully completed or initiated work on most of the 2005 goals, there are
some that have yet to be addressed. These include environmental outreach, through "vehicles"
such as a wetland buffer guidebook and an environmental page for the City's website, and
quarterly updates with Councilmembers by ward. Furthermore, the City is still in the process of
updating the Comprehensive Plan and thus, an opportunity still exists for the EPB to provide
input on the Environmental Protection/Resource Management section of the plan.
Recommendation:
In addition to the carry-over items mentioned above, members of the Environmental Policy Board
may have other interests that they would like added to the work plan. Possible topics that have
been mentioned include tracking waste streams and creating an electronic version of the Ramsey
Tree Book. Staff is recommending that the EPB not only discuss these topics, as well as any
additional topics of interest for inclusion in the 2006 work plan, but also prioritize them so that
Staff can prepare the work plan and present it to the EPB at the February meeting.
EPB Action
Based on discussion.
EPB: 1/9/06
