With these changes, staff is also looking for a stricter stance on allowing conditional use
permits. It is important to discuss establishing criteria for obtaining a conditional use
permit. Such criteria could include a special use, (other than storage) additional
landscaping requirements, or larger lot sizes. Currently, there are no criteria in City Code
permit for accessory structure overages. It is suggested that, in the future, the only
overages considered would be those uses that are allowed by conditional use permit for
other reasons. For example, a conditional use permit is required for two principal
buildings on one lot. Any accessory structure size overages may be processed as two
principal buildings in the future.

The Planning Commission recommended adoption of this ordinance on March 3, 2006.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends introducing the ordinance to amend Section 9.11.02 of City Code, as
proposed.

Council Action:

Discuss the value of increasing the maximum square footage limits for accessory
structures and discuss possible criteria for approving a conditional use permit to exceed
these maximums,

-and-

Motion by Councilmember
to introduce ordinance #06-

and seconded by Councilmember
amending Section 9.11.02 (Accessory Structures)

Review Checklist:
Assistant Community Development Director

CC 3.14.06

-178-
