-2- <br /> <br /> EEOC Public Employer Handbook Available <br /> The U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Con'mission has provided <br />the Office of Revenue Sharing with a supply of its recent handbook <br />for State and local ,governments entitled "Eliminating Discrimination <br />in Employment: A Compelling National Priority." The handbook has been <br />written to help public eraployers understand what is legally prohibited <br />eraployment discrimination, how to identify it and ,,~nat actions are <br />required to eliminate it. It provides a sun~ary of basic requirements <br />under all applicable Federal laws and examples of specific eraployment <br />practices where discrimination most frequently is found. It also includes <br />descriptions of recorrmended corrective actions. <br /> The Office of Revenue Sharin~ will be glad to make single copies <br /> available to recipient governments without charge upon request to the Inter- <br /> governn~ental Relations Division at the letterhead address. <br /> The Office also will be pleased to respond to inquiries yoU may have <br /> regarding voluntary aff.irmative actions -which yoUr government may wish to <br /> co~sider'to prevent discrimination in employment or the provision of <br /> services. Please write in care of the letterhead address or telephone <br /> (202) 63~-5337- <br /> Census Revenue Sharing Forms <br /> Governments which report revenue sharing and other data directly <br /> to the Bureau of the Census were sent the proper form in mid-Septerrber <br /> on which to report this infomration. *'~/ transmittal letter reminds <br /> recipients also about the requirement that a copy-of the report mst <br /> be made available for public inspection to~ether with supporting documenta- <br /> tion within 10 days after returning the form to the Census Bureau. <br /> A newspaper notice advising the public of the availability of the <br /> report form for inspection nTM also be pyblished promptly after the <br /> forms are returned. <br /> In a majority of States, most local governments will receive <br /> survey forms from a State or county gOVernment agency which collects <br /> these data by arrangement with the Census Bureau. These governments <br /> may receive their forms at a later date. Most governments will be <br /> asked to complete the same forms they received last year. <br /> The Census Bureau and other data collection agencies working <br /> in cooperation with it rmy send these forms to someone other than <br /> the chief executive of your government. Please determine who in your <br /> · government has completed these forms in the past and encourage that <br /> person to prepare the required report as soon as accurate figures <br /> are available. It is not necessary that the report be delayed until <br /> an audit is conducted so long as accurate infommtion is reported. <br /> <br /> <br />
