FRANK ¥. HARRIS,D#ecZor

MEMO TO:

FROM:

DATE:

Law Enforcement Administrators and Training Officers
MINNESOTA CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION
January 28, 1981

Attached to this letter you will find a brochure for the MINNESOTA
CONFERENCE ON FAMILY VIOLENCE, scheduled for March 12 and 13,
1981, at the St. Paul Radisson. The conference is sponsored
cooperatively by the Office of Minnesota Supreme Court Continuing
Education, the Minnesota County Attorneys Council, the Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension and Minnesota Continuing Legal Education.

This effort was initiated for two main reasons:
1. The number of family violence cases reported to criminal
justice and social service agencies have increased substantially
in the past few years. This trend will probably continue as the
public becomes more aware of family violence ~sues. causing.
increased pressure on criminal justice and social service sysLems.
This program will focus on some of the legal and criminal aspects
of family violence - including recent changes in the law and new
strategies for intervention to help professionals meet these new
challenges.

2. There is a need for better communication and coordination
amoung agencies within a community to effectively deal with family
violence problems. The second objective of this conference,
therefore, will be to specifically examine the role of ELECTED
OFFICIALS; COUNTY BOARDS, LAW ENFORCEMENT., SOCIAL
SERVICE AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADMINISTRATOr(SI AND THE
COURT in establishing administrative policy and effective local
programming to combat the tragedy of violence in the family.

We hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to hear
and meet some of the top family violence professionals in the country.
Enrollment is limited, so please send in your registration as .soon as
possible. The program will be accredited by the Minnesota Board of
Continuing Legal Education, the Office of Continuing Education for State
Court Personnel, and the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST)
Board. Conference attendees will also receive a course manual which will
serva as a resource guide for future reference.

Please call Minnesota' CLE at (612) 227-8266 if you have any questions or
for further information.

jgs

D/vision of Minnesota State Bar Association
