at keeping the CSO position open; however, they are responsible for code enforcement. She <br />stated that they have looked at the possibility of the building inspectors taking over the code <br />enforcement duties. She stated with this scenario, it would result in a savings of approximately <br />$27,823 for 2008. <br />Chairperson Jeffrey asked if the City needed to recruit outside of the City or if this could just be <br />filled internally also. <br />Human Resources Reed Kone noted that if the position could be filled internally, there would not <br />be a need to recruit externally. She stated that in addition to the CSO, there is one other <br />individual who could be eligible to apply for this position. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he feels that everyone eligible, internally, should be given a <br />chance to apply. <br />Chairperson Jeffrey asked Human Resources Manager Reed Kone to review the cost savings for <br />2008 and 2009. <br />Human Resources Manager Reed Kone noted that for 2008, if the positions were filled as <br />proposed, there would be a total cost savings of $65,997 and $68,692 for 2009. <br />Councilmember Olson stated that she commended staff for coming up with creative ways to <br />handle the budgeting process, given the current economic situation. <br />Motion by Councilmember Olson, seconded by Councilmember Dehen, to recommend that the <br />City Council direct staff to begin the internal recruitment process for filling the new Patrol <br />Officer position and the vacant Associate Planner position and to recruit to fill the Management <br />Intern position effective September 1, 2008. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Jeffrey, Councilmembers Olson and Dehen. Voting <br />No: None. <br />Chairperson Jeffrey recommended that this item be pulled off of the Consent Agenda for <br />discussion by the Council. <br />COMMITTEE INPUT <br />None. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Motion by Councilmember Olson, seconded by Chairperson Jeffrey, to close the regular meeting <br />of the Personnel Committee. <br />Motion carried. <br />Personnel Committee / June 10, 2008 <br />Page 4 of 5 <br />
