Mayor Gamec confirmed that the benefit amounts are uniform now between police and City <br />employees. <br />Vice Chair Olson stated that considering today's climate these seem like pretty good numbers. <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Vice -Chair Olson, to recommend to the City Council that <br />they approve the health insurance contributions, as presented, for non -union employees, LELS <br />Sergeants and LELS Patrol, which will be effective January 1, 2009 Motion carried. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec and Vice -Chair Olson. Voting No: None. Absent: <br />Chairperson Jeffrey and Councilmember Dehen. <br />Councilmember Dehen arrived at 5:09 p.m. <br />Case #2: Consider a Resolution Approving 2009 Benefits Contracts <br />Human Resources Manager Kone' stated that as she stated in Case #1, in 2008 the City entered <br />a 2 year contract with Health Partners and have also been with Delta Dental for several years. <br />She stated that staff is not recommending changes in either of these contracts. She stated that <br />staff is recommending appointing Minnesota Life for our carrier for Life Insurance and Assurant <br />for our Long Term Disability. She stated that basic life insurance would cost the City $2,500 per <br />year, which is already in the budget. <br />Vice -Chair Olson asked when the City switches carriers, how it checks on the new carriers. <br />Human Resources Manager Kone' stated that agents are usually familiar with the carriers, but <br />she generally calls others cities, counties and even private sector folks to see what their <br />experience has been. <br />Councilmember Dehen asked what the City's deductible is for employees for health benefits. <br />Human Resources Manager Kone' stated that for the single side it is $1,000 for a high <br />deductible. She stated that there are two plans with no deductible, but co -pay and one high <br />deductible plan that are $1,000 for single and $2,000 for family. She stated that the City does <br />make a contribution to the VEBA that is attached to the high deductible plan, which is <br />$100/month for 2009 for singles and $137.39/month for families 2009. <br />Mayor Gamec asked if the City checked into whether Councilmembers were able to pay into that <br />and buy insurance through the City. <br />Human Resources Manager Kone' stated that she can check into it. <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Vice -Chair Olson, to recommend to the City Council that <br />they approve two-year benefit contracts with Assurant and Minnesota Life and maintain the <br />current contracts with HealthPartners and Delta Dental. <br />Personnel Committee / November 25, 2008 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />
