¢-6sea* .5 AUTHORIZE CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW PARK SHELTER AT CENTRAL PARK By: Heidi A. Nelson, Asst. City Administrator & Dean Kapler, Fire Chief Background: On February 28th, 2006 Council authorized re-bidding for the new Park Shelter at Central Park. This new structure would replace the existing Park Shelter located at the southern end of Central Park. The Ramsey Lions Club has donated $185,000 towards the cost of constructing the new Park Shelter. Bids were received and opened at City Hall on Friday, March 24th 2006 at I0:00 a.m. Three (3) bids were received as follows (Add alternate No. 1 is the toilet room shell & rough-in; Deduct altemate No. 2 is the reduction in the size of the building by one bay - 18 ft.) DNR Construction Services Jansen Builders Inc. FW Gordon Construction Inc. Base Bid Add No. 1 Deduct No. 2 $311,500.00 $57,800.00 ($17,200.00) $319,700.00 $62,500.00 ($18,000.00) $336,000.00 $56,000.00 ($20,000.00) The architect's revised estimate for the construction costs was $328,742 and $63,612 for the base bid and the toilet room rough-in respectively, no estimate was established for the reduction in size. As of the preparation of this case, staff is in the process of verifying contractor qualifications. Staffhas notified Frank Frederick and Martin Schindel with the Ramsey Lions of the bids received; representatives of the Ramsey Lions will be present at the meeting on March 28th. Staff will bring a recommendation to the Meeting on March 28th for Council consideration after further discussion with Adkins Association Architects and contacting references for the low bidder. Staff Recommendation: Authorize Contract for construction of the new Park Shelter at Central Park.
