City Administrator & Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> On February 28th, 2006 Council authorized re-bidding for the new Park Shelter at Central Park. <br />This new structure would replace the existing Park Shelter located at the southern end of Central Park. <br />The Ramsey Lions Club has donated $185,000 towards the cost of constructing the new Park Shelter. <br /> <br /> Bids were received and opened at City Hall on Friday, March 24th 2006 at I0:00 a.m. Three (3) <br />bids were received as follows (Add alternate No. 1 is the toilet room shell & rough-in; Deduct altemate <br />No. 2 is the reduction in the size of the building by one bay - 18 ft.) <br /> <br />DNR Construction Services <br />Jansen Builders Inc. <br />FW Gordon Construction Inc. <br /> <br />Base Bid Add No. 1 Deduct No. 2 <br />$311,500.00 $57,800.00 ($17,200.00) <br />$319,700.00 $62,500.00 ($18,000.00) <br />$336,000.00 $56,000.00 ($20,000.00) <br /> <br /> The architect's revised estimate for the construction costs was $328,742 and $63,612 for the <br />base bid and the toilet room rough-in respectively, no estimate was established for the reduction in <br />size. As of the preparation of this case, staff is in the process of verifying contractor qualifications. <br />Staffhas notified Frank Frederick and Martin Schindel with the Ramsey Lions of the bids received; <br />representatives of the Ramsey Lions will be present at the meeting on March 28th. <br /> <br />Staff will bring a recommendation to the Meeting on March 28th for Council consideration after <br />further discussion with Adkins Association Architects and contacting references for the low bidder. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> Authorize Contract for construction of the new Park Shelter at Central Park. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> Approve Resolution No. 06-03-xx, Authorizing Contract for the Construction of the new Park <br />Shelter at Central Park. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br />City Administrator <br />Finance Officer <br /> <br />CC: 03/28/06 <br /> <br />-201- <br /> <br /> <br />
