Dear Sir or Madam: I would like to formally request a 3 to 4 month extension of the variance granted to my wife and I on April 7, 2005. The variance was to allow for the construction and forward placement of a detached garage on our property located in the Northfork at Ramsey, golf course development (15900 St. Andrews Lane). The reason that we didn't start the construction of our new home and this detached garage in 2005 is simply related to--bad timing and circumstances beyond our control, which I hope to explain below. As I'm sure you can imagine building one house doesn't carry much clout when you're dealing with busy sub-contractors. And unfortunately the speed of their bid responses reflected that. We had our lot surveyed, staked and soil tested while we waited for the bids to slowly role in. Around the time thz/t we were getting ready to apply for our Building Permit the South was being devastated by hurricanes. We kept hearing on the news that the cost of building supplies were going to go up 20 to 40 percent due to the immediate needs in the South. The thinking was that the price increases would last for about six months or until supply quantities could normalize. This put us in a troubling situation. Build now and suffer a 20 to 40 percent price increase, or wait until things hopefully settle down in the spring of 2006. We couldn't afford to suffer the price increases so we decided to wait for the spring. Now that spring is quickly approaching, we are trying to reconnect with the sub-contractors that we had received .bids from. The process is going slower than we anticipated and that is why we need the extension of our variance. Our goal is to be in the ground by the 1st Of July. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
