Deputy City Administrator and she was not given additional compensation at that time. Mr.
Ulrich reported that Ms. Nelson has successfully managed a wide -breadth of management
responsibilities with a focus on development and that she has obtained certification as an
Economic Development Finance Professional through a series of four non-consecutive training
sessions of the National Development Council. Mr. Ulrich pointed out that Ms. Nelson's
position is a key management position of the City but the position salary lags behind other
organization department head positions. Mr. Ulrich recommended a salary of $100,644,
effective July 1, 2010.
The Personnel Committee discussed the request. It was noted that the number two person in
charge of the City is the lowest paid department head. It was also noted that when the new title
was given to Ms. Nelson, it was stated at that time, there would not be monetary compensation
and that a case on this evening's Council agenda is to hire an Economic Development
Coordinator, which would lighten Ms. Nelson's workload.
Motion by Councilmember McGlone, seconded by Chairperson Dehen to not approve the
additional compensation request for Ms. Nelson, but that it could be looked at during 2011
budget discussions.
Motion carried.
