Personnel Committee 4. 1. <br />Meeting Date: 08/28/2012 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services <br />Title: <br />Consider a Resolution to Hire a City Engineer <br />Background: <br />At the June 5. 2012 special City Council meeting, staff was authorized to conduct a recruitment process to fill the <br />City Engineer position which would be left vacant after Mr. Himmer's last day on June 29, 2012. <br />A recruitment process was conducted and staff received five applications. All five candidates were interviewed and <br />one candidate was interviewed a second time. Staff has completed the necessary background checks and is <br />recommending that the top finalist be hired as the City's new City Engineer position. As of this writing, the City is <br />awaiting the results of the pre -employment physical and drug/alcohol testing. It is anticipated that the results will be <br />available prior to the Personnel Committee meeting. Once the City receives the passing test results the name of the <br />candidate name will be provided. <br />It is anticipated that the new City Engineer will begin work on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. As discussed at <br />the June 5th meeting, there will be a transition period between the new City Engineer and the consulting engineer to <br />ensure that things go smoothly. <br />Notification: <br />Observations: <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends hiring the selected candidate as the city's new City Engineer at $37.82 per hour, effective on <br />September 12, 2012, with a five day vacation credit. <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding to replace the vacated City Engineer is included in the 2012/2013 budget and is estimated to be <br />$108,557 annually; with $27,880 coming from the enterprise fund and $80,677 from the general fund. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to approve resolution # 12-09-XXX confirming the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to <br />authorize to hire the selected candidate as the city's new City Engineer at $37.82 per hour, effective on September <br />12, 2012, with a five day vacation credit. <br />Resolution <br />Inbox Reviewed By Date <br />Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 08/23/2012 02:42 PM <br />Form Started By: Colleen Lasher Started On: 08/20/2012 08:23 AN1 <br />Final Approval Date: 08/23/2012 <br />
