· East/west connection from the Greg Bauer property to Central Park around the area of
160t~ Avenue

Further discussion: Councilmember Elvig noted there was discussion at a work session about
clarifying the population on City signs, and the City's population will need to be identified to
qualify for some of this funding. He expressed concern with the language of a possible MSA
street extension through the area of Boy Scout Camp. He suggested the language be changed to
state near the area of the Boy Scout Camp. Assistant Public Works Director Olson suggested the
language be changed to state in the area between Alpine Drive and 167th Avenue.

The motion on the floor was amended as follows: to ratify the recommendation of the Public
Works Committee in Case No. 3 and to direct staff to provide further information to the Public
Works Committee regarding the following MSA street extensions:

· Extension in the area between Alpine Drive and 167~ Avenue
· Extension of Sunwood Drive
· East/west connection from the Greg Bauer property to Central Park around the area of
160th Avenue

Further discussion: Councilmember Elvig inquired if the eastbound connection at 167th Avenue
is identified as a future MSA road. Assistant Public Works Director Olson responded in the
affirmative.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Olson, Elvig, Jeffrey,
Pearson, and Strommen. Voting No: None.

COMMITTEE/STAFF INPUT

1) Intersection of Alpine Drive and Sunfish Lake Boulevard

Assistant Public Works Director OIson stated since the Public Works Committee meeting was
held there has been significant progress at the intersection of Alpine Drive and Sunfish Lake
Boulevard. The County had previously said the best fix for the intersection would be a 4-way
stop sign. The reason the sign was not put up sooner was because the County had applied for
funding for signalization for that intersection, which required going through the Department of
Public Safety to obtain accident records. There was miscoding of the accidents that occurred at
this intersection; once the correct number of accidents was determined the stop sign was
expedited and it is expected that funding will be obtained in the future. Mr. Olson explained the
County discourages the use of rumble strips, as they collect street debris and are a significant
problem for motorcyclists. The County is looking at the entire Alpine Drive corridor; another
intersection being reviewed is Ramsey Boulevard and Alpine Drive.

Councilmember Elvig stated it is hard to believe the intersection at 167th Avenue and TH 47
would not be addressed as well.

City Council / March 14, 2006
