B~303 <br /> <br />Dear Mayor G~ec. <br /> <br />One of my main a~s as Metro~litan Co~cil chair is to reestablish a strong <br />working relatio~hip between the Co~cil ~d local gover~ents so we can listen <br />more closely to your conce~s ~ ideas, and stay in touch with local feelings <br />about met~polit~ p~ble~. We re now ready to act on reco~endations from an <br />internal co~ittee to accomplish this, ~d I ~nt to s~re our plus ~th you. <br /> The reco~endations are based heavily on results of a s~vey Co~cil members <br /> sent to all area mayors, to~ board chairs ~d cowry board chairs in the <br /> region this s,,~er. MM t~ks to all of you ~o took the t~e to respon4~ <br /> First, the Co~cil intends to give local gover~ents more opport~ities to <br /> participate in setting regional policies ~d solving regional problems. ~is <br /> means we will ~ holdi~ more info,al discussion meetings ~ong local ~d <br /> regional polic~kers ~d ~ong their staffs. The meetings will ~ held for <br /> such policy work as ~en~ents to ~gional policy plus, ~d new initiatives <br /> and legislative p~posals to solve regional p~ble~. <br /> <br /> Your clear preference ~s that individual Co~cil mem~rs hold meetings in <br /> their districts to discuss emerging p~blems or policy p~posals with you. <br /> ~ese ~en t intended to ~ke the place of your direct contacts ~th Co~cil <br /> members -- if there s a problem, please continue to pick up the phone or ~ite <br /> a note. ~ ~ alternative to district meeti~s, or in addition, you asked that <br /> we meet with the boards of the Association of Metro~litan M~icipalities ~d <br /> Metro~litan Interco~ty Association for discussions. We intend to do more of <br /> both these things. <br /> <br /> For my ~rt, I pl~ to continue ?ldl~ ~ ~nual ro~d of regional meetings to <br /> hear yo~ concerns firsthand.
