Case #7

Introduce Ordinance Amending Section 9.11.04 (Accessory Structures) of the
Zoning Chapter of City Code

Presentation

Associate Planner Dalnes stated that at the Planning Commission meeting in October, the
commissioners expressed a desire to review and possibly alter the accessory structure size
limitations in order to reduce the number of Conditional Use Permits granted for size overages
each year. She stated that the proposed ordinance increases the maximum accessory square
footage for three of the smaller lot size categories.

Associate Planner Dalnes advised that since 2003, the Planning Commission has received 17
requests from residents to exceed square footage restrictions for garages. She reviewed the two
major changes, noting that with these changes, staff is also looking for a stricter stance on
allowing conditional use permits. She indicated that it is important to discuss establishing
criteria for obtaining a conditional use permit. She stated that such criteria could include a
special use, additional landscaping requirements, or larger lot sizes.

Public Input

Vice Chairperson Johnson opened the public hearing at 12:10 a.m.

Motion by Vice Chairperson Johnson, seconded by Commissioner Brauer to close the public
hearing at 12:10 a.m.

Motion Carried.
