Voting Yes: Chairperson Elvig, Councilmember Olson and Mayor Gamec.
Voting No: None.

COMMITTEE/STAFF INPUT

Discuss Highway Safety Improvements

(a) CR 57 & Alpine Drive

City Engineer Jankowski reviewed that the intersection of CR 57 & Alpine Drive was discussed
at the February Committee meeting. A couple of suggestions were offered. He reported 4-way
stop signs are now in place and requested direction if the Committee would still like staff to
pursue some of the other alternatives that were discussed.

Chairperson Elvig asked if the 4-way stop is considered permanent.

City Engineer Jankowski responded in the affirmative. He indicated his understanding is that the
4-way stop signs were installed because the accident history at this intersection met the warrants
for signalization, and eventually it could be a signalized intersection.

Councilmember Olson asked if there has been monitoring of the intersection since the stop signs
were installed.

Police Chief Way replied there were half a dozen citations issued the first two nights; there has
not been an issue during the day.

Councilmember Olson noted with as well marked as the intersection now is additional warnings
would not provide further safety measures.

The consensus of the Committee was to direct staff not to proceed with the other alternatives
discussed at the February meeting for this intersection.

(b) TH 47 & 167th Avenue

The consensus of the Committee was to discuss the intersection of TH 47 & 167th Avenue at the
work session following the Committee meeting.

Public Works Committee / March 21, 2006
