CASE # 2

CONSIDER CHANGE ORDER FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 03-20
NORTHWEST SANITARY SEWER AND WATERMAIN EXTENSION
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Upon initiating the construction of the northwest sanitary sewer, soil conditions were
encountered where organic soils were discovered to be deeper than the bottom of the
sanitary sewer. Limited soil borings were available to predict the soil conditions because
of the unavailability of access since easements had been only recently been obtained. Soil
investigations allowed for the relocation of the sanitary sewer to avoid the excessively
deep organic soils. This situation has caused a number &modifications to the project and
consequently to the agreement with the contractor, LaTour Construction. Attached to this
case is proposed Change Order No. 1 which outlines the nature of these changes along
with the financial and scheduling implications of these changes.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends the Public Works Committee recommend to City Council that Change
Order No. 1 with LaTour Construction be approved in the amount of $13,766.96 and
extending the contract completion date by 20 days.

Action:

Motion to committee recommend to City Council that Change Order No. 1 with LaTour
Construction be approved in the amount of $13,766.96 and extending the contract
completion date by 20 days.

Reviewed By:
Public Works Director/Principal Engineer
Fire Chief
Finance Officer

PW: 05/16/06

29
