Commissioner Shryock stated in the past the Commission has discussed the atmosphere at Tittered Park, and how the Commission would like the City's parks to have an identity. With Titterud Park the Commission discussed the natural woodsy feel. The Commission felt the Tittered Grove proposal addresses a number of issues the Commission has discussed in the past. She reviewed the following elements of the Tittered Grove proposal: · The proposal includes a wood structure. The Commission would elect to eliminate the proposed mushroom structures and replace them with a natural colored slide that would be incorporated into the unit, with timber l~aming incorporated around the play area. · The proposal includes wood timbers outlining the area, as opposed to concrete, which the majority of the Commission would support due to the natural feel they would like to maintain. · The Commission liked the landscaping and seating area with the ability for parents or guardians to view children playing in multiple areas at the same time. · The proposal addressed the concern for avoiding the tree roots to avoid damage to the trees. Commissioner Shryock stated overall, the Titterud Grove proposal included many of the factors the Commission has considered. Motion by Commissioner Shryock, seconded by Commissioner Olds, to recommend forwarding the proposal for the Titterud Grove Park proposal for new play equipment at Titterud Park to the Finance Committee, with the mushroom play structures eliminated and replaced with a natural colored slide to be incorporated into the unit, and with timber framing around the play area; and that any and all other improvements that need to occur within the playground improvement project, including the path to the bituminous parking lot fall within the $55,000 Capital Improvement Project allocation Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Shyrock, Olds, Erickson, and LaMere. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Hansen and Lehman. COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT Outdoor Meeting Schedule The Commission discussed the outdoor meeting schedule. The consensus of the Commission was to schedule the following outdoor meeting schedule: May- Woodland Green Park with an invitation to the EPB for a joint meeting June - Emerald Pond Park with an invitation to the Council for a joint meeting July- Town Center Park August - Titterud Park September - Elmcrest Park Park and Recreation Commission/April 13, 2006 Page 6 of 7
