1 (excluding window and door area in the calculation). This requirement shall also apply to the <br />2 side of a building when it faces a public street. <br />3 b. Multiple -dwelling developments that face county highways, state highways, or MSA roads <br />4 shall vary structure orientation. <br />5 c. A minimum of three colors shall be used for each multiple -dwelling building. Elements that <br />6 may count towards this requirement include siding, trim, doors, and garage doors. A color <br />7 palette shall be included as a part of the building elevation submittal at the time of <br />8 development review. <br />9 d. All multiple -dwelling structures shall include at least two of the following architectural <br />10 elements: <br />11 1. Articulated/cantilevered facade. <br />12 2. Dormers. <br />13 3. Articulated roofline. <br />14 4. Projected or inset windows. <br />15 5. Balconies, porches, or decks. <br />16 6. Window treatment, such as shutters and window boxcs. <br />17 70ther elements as approved by the city council. <br />18 b. The 35 percent masonry requirement (under subsection (c)(8)a.1 of this section) may —be <br />19 waived in whole or in part bayed -on inclusion of one or more of thc following criteria: <br />20 1. Two additional arectural elements from thc list in subsection (c)(8)a.4 of this section <br />21 arc included. <br />22 2. Two additional ee-I-ors arc included in the overall ee-[or palette, for a total of five colors. <br />23 3. Deeorativc sidewalks (brick, ste-A-c inlays, ctc.). <br />24 4. Other aesthetic cnhancemcnts deemed to be appropriate by the city council. <br />25 <br />26 (C) Accessory buildings. Exterior building materials for detached accessory buildings not addressed <br />27 by Minnesota tat shall be generally consistent with the exterior finish of the <br />28 principal building and finished with hardboard lap siding, vinyl lap siding, aluminum or metal <br />29 lap siding, architectural metal panels, textured wood (painted), and/or masonry. Prefabricated <br />30 molded plastic storage sheds shall be permissible. <br />31 <br />32 <br />33 485 Residential Fences <br />34 <br />35 (A) Height. Fencing or walls (except retaining walls) located in the required front yard &ctbaek shall not <br />36 exceed four feet in height except for "ornamental fences" as defined in section 117-1 Fencing or <br />37 walls located in the side or rear yard shall not exceed eight feet in height -A -mining -permit required <br />38 for all fences that arc not addressed by thc Mi-n-n-esota State Building Codc. <br />39 (B) Materials and construction. Fences shall be constructed in a workmanlike manner and of substantial <br />40 material reasonably suited for its intended purpose. Fencing material shall consist only of wood, <br />41 chain link, wrought iron, maintenance free vinyl, aluminum, or steel. Any other material must be <br />42 approved by the zoning administrator prior to installation. <br />43 (1) No boards, planks, or panels shall be larger than 12 inches in width. <br />44 (2) Chain link fences shall be constructed such that no barbed ends shall be at the top. <br />45 (3) Fence framing must face inward on the fence owner's lot. <br />46 (4) Chain link fencing for multi -family, townhome, or non-residential uses must be black or brown <br />47 vinyl coated. <br />48 (C) Agricultural uses. <br />Page 71 of 160 <br />
