PERA (Public Employees Retirement Association) - Statewide pension program in which all City <br /> employees meeting program requirements must participate in accordance with Minnesota law. The <br /> City and the employee each contribute to the employee's retirement account. <br /> Probationary Period <br /> A six or twelve-month per <br /> iod at the start of employment with the city.(or at the beginning of a <br /> promotion, reassignment, or transfer) unless covered by a collective bar Raining agreement stating a <br /> different time frame. An employee serving the initial probationary period ma be disciplined at the <br /> sole discretion of the city, to and including dismissal. An employee so disciplined, including <br /> dismissal, will not have any grievance rights.Time served in temporary, seasonal, volunteer or <br /> interim positions are not considered part of the probationary period. Seasonal employees ma <br /> assigned to work a full-time or pail-time schedule. Except as required by law, seasonal employees <br /> do not earn benefits or credit for seniority. In order to comply with health care reform law while <br /> avoiding penalties, part-time employees will be scheduled with business needs and in a manner <br /> that ensures positions retain part-time status as intended or, in some rare instances, may be offered <br /> health insurance to comply with federal health care reform laws and regulations while avoiding <br /> associated penalties. <br /> Service Credit-Time worked for the City. An employee begins earning service credit on the first <br /> day worked for the City.
