The Commission asked Mr. Boos to assure that the access width is adequate to provide a three-foot
clear space (minus pole width).

Motion by Commissioner Droegemueller and seconded by Commissioner Johns to request the City
Council authorize to let bids to construct tennis courts at Central Park.

Commissioner Rolfe asked if bids for lighting or an alternate for lighting will be requested. Mr. Boos
suggested the vendor be required to supply lighting specifications and their estimated budget costs
with indication that the estimated lighting cost would be held in confidence by the City and used only
for internal purposes.

Mr. Norman suggested that the bids specifically call for an alternate for a lighting bid.

Commissioners Droegemueller and Johns accepted this friendly amendment to their motion.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Droegemueller, Johns, Asfahl, LaMere,
Ostrum, and Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: None.

Case #6:

Discuss Date and Desired Outcomes for a Trail Meeting (Friends of Ramsey's
Trail List)

Mr. Boos noted the trail survey which was conducted last year by placing a kiosk and requesting
input. He stated that it had been discussed to determine the desired outcome of that survey and
suggested the Commission have an informational meeting to discuss the trail map, process for
building projects, the C~, modifying the trail map, and to review opportunities where they may be
able to provide advocacy. He suggested that the informational meeting be conducted in conjunction
with a regularly scheduled Commission meeting.

Mr. Norman suggested the list of those who responded be invited to this informational meeting. This
summer, the kiosk can be used again to collect more names of interested residents. Also, the
newsletter can contain information about the Friends ofRamsey's Trail program, inviting interested
residents to respond. He stated there is a desire that a group can be created to participate on trail
issues of their own accord.

Mr. Boos stated staff is in the process of assembling resources to present to the Council to request
authorization to draft a master trail plan. He suggested the Council also be invited to the
informational meeting and provided with a list of topics to be discussed.

Following discussion, it was agreed that the informational meeting would be scheduled for the
February 11, 1999 meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Case #7: Discuss Name for Community Park #5

Mr. Boos explained that for many years, the City has been referring to the proposed 83-acre park site
north of 160th Lane and west of Trunk Highway #47 as "Community Park #5." He reported that the

Park and Recreation Commission/January 14, 1999
Page 7 of 9
