Mr. Boos stated he does not have a cost estimate for the project but thinks it will be about $50,000
for the tennis court portion. He stated that the $63,000 budget should be adequate for this project.

Commissioner Ostrum asked if there will be independent fighting on these tennis courts. Mr. Boos
stated there is not adequate funding for lighting at this time but that could be considered in the future.
Mr. Boos stated the option of independent lighting could be raised during discussion of the CIP for
next year.

Commissioner Johns asked what the cost is for independent fighting. Mr. Boos stated he is unsure.

Commissioner Droegemueller noted the lighting standard would not have to be as high as required
for high school fields but he thinks it would be beneficial since tennis courts are used very often.

Chairperson Cook stated that lighting is quite expensive and it is important to assure it is done
correctly.

Commissioner Droegemueller stated he would like a bid received for the fighting cost. Mr. Boos
stated it could be included as an alternate bid but the specifications for the lighting would have to be
carefully drafted.

Commissioner Droegemueller stated he had envisioned the tennis courts being located closer to the
hockey rink, possibly being able to "piggy-back" the lighting so it could be shared by both.

Chairperson Cook agreed that the specifications for tennis court fighting are quite detailed to assure
shadows are not created.

Mr. Boos stated then lighting could be looked at for subsequent years.

Chairperson Cook suggested the specifications and bids for the tennis courts proceed at this time with
the lighting specifications and bids coming later.

Mr. Norman stated that vendors are familiar with the specifications for tennis court lighting and
suggested the vendor be asked for a budget amount.

Mr. Boos concurred and suggested the requirements might include that the vendor submit
specifications and costs for a lighting system to go with their tennis court bid.

Commissioner Droegemueller stated he raised the need for fighting at this point since he hates to see
park facilities constructed and then not fully utilized. Also once the costs for lighting are known, it
can be considered should funding become available.

Commissioner LaMere asked if the plans show a three foot area for access. Mr. Boos stated that is
correct when measured from center-of-pole to center-of-pole. Commissioner LaMere explained that
in some park areas the access width is quite narrow and he is happy to see that three feet is proposed
at this park.

Park and Recreation Commission/January 14, 1999
Page 6 of 9
